Re: Hosmer... He's such a tough case for the Royals. He's the team's emotional leader. He's a good but not great player. And I think his skills at the plate probably age worse than Moustakas's, because Hosmer's swing is so busy. He's always probably going to be prone to streaky hitting because of it.
If you can sign him to a deal in the Belt-Freeman range, it makes sense to try to keep him around. If it's higher than that, I think I'm convinced the risk that his complicated swing loses effectiveness as he ages is just too high.
Moustakas has a much simpler swing and seems to have put it together. If the Royals end up being able to keep him but not Hosmer, it may be a blessing in disguise.
