That's a non-economic damages cap (pain and suffering). I'm not sure that it would include future earnings and things of that nature that could be included in a wrongful death suit. Lost earning potential is huge for someone that has a spouse and/or dependents. But I wouldn't think his parents would be able to make any claims on his lost earnings.
