When I was growing up, the worst thing that a person could from a style perspective - the WORST - was to have pants that showed the ankles. If you could see a person's socks while they were wearing pants, that person was someone that you should shun and avoid at all costs. It was the fashion equivalent of stabbing yourself in the face. It was such a terrible, terrible thing to do in my formative years that I can never ever wear short pants like that at any point in my life.
