I don't mind having a quick leash on pitchers in the playoffs, but continually riding the same guys is a good way to hurt their effectiveness because the batters will usually become more effective at timing them. Sometimes using your middle relievers is a good move just because it keeps the other team from seeing your horses and getting comfortable against them. I think Maddon was misguided here.

I agree with all your takes on this, especially the middle relievers. He did use Monty so that kind of took off an inning.
Seems like Strop and Rodon cannot handle the big time pressure situations in the playoffs, especially in high leverage situations. *shrugs*
On the other hand, there's nothing comfortable facing a pitcher who can dish out a 100+ mph fastballs on a consistent basis.
