If the Spanii had any brains, they'd be calling Dave Toub up and begging him to be their next head coach.

I'll still take Rivers over Alex any day of the week. We literally had a practice squad receiver (Geremy Davis) and a practice squad running back (Andre Williams) out there with our usual motley crew of UDFAs, aging vets and terrible offensive linemen. All things considered, Rivers has had the toughest job in the NFL this year. He has to spend most of the play clock explaining in great detail where every player needs to be, calling out the protections, checking off the safeties, and reading the defense. Then he has to hope that his atrocious O-line can hold their blocks for longer than a nanosecond so he can hand it off to the fifth- or sixth- string running back or throw the ball to one of our UDFA receivers who don't fight for the ball and can't catch a cold. Then he gets called a "choker" by ignorant Skip Bayless wannabes when the ball bounces off our receivers' stone hands and into the arms of the nearest defender, or when our receivers give up on the play and the nearest defender catches it, or when the clock is running down because McCoy's wasted all our timeouts and Rivers needs to force undesirable throws downfield to give us any chance at all. Despite it all, Rivers finishes out the year with the fourth most touchdowns among starting NFL quarterbacks, the fifth most yards, the eighth most yards per game, and five more wins than this dumpster fire of a franchise had any business getting this year. In contrast, the last time Alex was on a team this bad, he was benched for Troy Smith.

Speaking of Alex, he had a solid day, but nothing special. He only had to throw it 10+ yards downfield five times all game. Must be nice to have weapons like Maclin and Hill and an NFL-caliber O-line that allows him to just manage the game. His scrambling ability killed us, but that's not a surprise. Pagano is consistently clueless against any mobile QB. I will say this: if Rivers had thrown the 90-yard pick-six that Alex threw, you Alex-only fans would never let him live it down. I thought one of the arguments for Alex over Rivers was that he "just takes care of the ball" - what happened to that?
