I'm not sure this team has EVER had a QB with a plus arm. That arm makes things possible that simply aren't possible with an Alex Smith arm. Stafford and Cutler make throws that nobody else can make. Granted, Cutler's also makes a bunch of reeruned ones so you have to have actual intelligence mixed in with it.
But Watson's absolute ceiling is Tyrod Taylor precisely because he doesn't have the arm strength to drill that pass into a small window.
You're not worried about a big arm because you've lost track of the benefits of actually having one. But if you settle on a guy with an 'Alex Smith arm', you're counting on that guy being the best technical passer in the league if you want him to be elite. That margin for error is extremely small. You're looking for outliers like Brees at that point and that's simply a bad gamble.

Alex has average arm strength, so I wouldn't compare him. I think guys with "good arm strength" are not a problem at all. Guys like Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton.
My point is that I don't care if a guy has amazing arm strength. I want accuracy, football IQ and leadership first.
