There is all sorts of cool stuff in the area. Check out Mesa Verde and wander up to Telluride. Ouray is quite pretty. You can pay the Indians five bucks to go stand on the Four Corners, too.
Durango is the biggest town in the area, but to be honest I find it the least interesting. I would recommend getting a cabin up near Ouray.
