This was an attempt to normalize behavior detrimental to a team. It was done so under the umbrella of race. Anyone who owns a business or runs an organization has dealt this the Marcus Peters of the world. They are bright, talented, unique. Except they aren't when it comes to doing what's best for the business. They are not above the rules and they are not above facing consequences for their actions. Marcus Peters was punished in order to help him and the team. One step back, two steps forward. It's on him now. His race and his individual circumstances are meaningless. He let the team down and it can't happen again. Asking nicely didn't get it done. Peters is at fault. Sam's article was well-written, well-intended, and off the mark. I'm guessing he's never been responsible for managing the behaviors of a large number of people in pursuit of a goal.
