When I think of it, if Mahomes doesn't become at least an average QB, it will really be because he just didn't have it or because of injuries maybe.
He has perfect conditions with this team to succeed. A supposed QB guru in Reid, a great and young deep threat in Hill, a great and young RB, a top TE who should still be at the top for at least one or two more years, an OL which is at least average and young enough not to decline before at least two years, a year of learning from Smith who is the best at avoiding turnovers. I guess just the defense is an unknown for the foreseeable future.
I try to temper my expectations and do believe he will turn the ball over some in his beginning but I don't think many young QBs have ever had such good conditions to start their career.
