When you have a guy in the locker room, feuding with others in the organization, requesting a trade, and everything else - you don't want that guy to be around your other players.
When you have one player rotting, you want to get that rot away from the others.
We also don't know how serious this was behind the scenes. We know he requested a trade, but its possible he told them he wouldn't report to camp if he wasn't traded.
I think Peters pretty much put the Chiefs in a no win situation.
Of course, I could be wrong as well, just my two cents.

You don't allow one of your most talented employees to control the situation in the first place. Not when he's under contract. He shouldn't have the ability to put the Chiefs in any type of situation. The Chiefs failed to control that situation.
