There are all sorts of different setups that have been used in this league in regards to coaching personnel and where they are at any given time during the course of a game. And there's no right way to do it if you're doing it successfully.
Andy is the head coach AND O-coord in this setup regardless of what the Chiefs payroll may say. It is what it is. Is he supposed to spend his game time overseeing the defense and possibly dictating to the D-Coord what types of plays should be run? I would hope not. That's not what Andy is good at.
He does however have a responsibility to make sure that the D-coord is doing his job well and producing positive results. He is responsible for making sure that the scouts and GM know what kind of players are needed for all three phases of the game. And if his defense is sucking out loud, it's his responsibility to find out why and to make the steps necessary to correct it. And it is definitely in Reid's best interest to get this current situation corrected if he hopes to do more than be a regular season warrior.
