Probably a little tainted by the organization he was released from.

So many teams see the Patriots as some model organization, especially given what they've been able to accomplish with 'malcontents' in the past, that they see a guy who went to the defending SB champion, came in out of shape and got cut as poison.

"Well damn, if he didn't want to put in the work for them and even the PATRIOTS couldn't deal with him, he must really be a dick..."

Best guess I've got, anyway. A guy that size who is still relatively young shouldn't have been a FA. There had to be some stigma attached to the Patriots in particular cutting him loose.
