That was the game for me too when I knew he was going to be an elite QB at the very minimum. I'll never forget it saw it live with my friend TwistedChief. thanks again TwistedChief for giving me those tickets!
Anyway I always knew Mahomes would be good. Just because I have so much respect for Reid and his ability to coach and evaluate QBs.
You gotta remember how much Reid liked Alex as a person and as a QB. Reid always said he wanted to coach him and that Alex's career would have been very different if Reid coached him from the beginning. We all know the story. So in order for us to trade up for Mahomes w what Alex went through in SF w Kaepernick and the respect Reid has for Alex I knew Mahomes had to have something Reid saw that made him say we can't pass this QB. Veach of course is main guy who did that but that trade doesn't happen wout Reid's approval I'm sure
What impressed me most about the Steelers game was that he didn't let playing on the road against a tough opponent effect him which is rare w young QBs. There aren't many QBs period who have done that to a Steelers D much less @Pitt. I was shocked id never seen a Chiefs QB light up Steelers like that and we have played them a lot throughout the years. That's when I knew he was going to be special because that's not normal. Most importsntlt, of course, Chiefs won which I think was at that time our first win @Pitt in a very long time.
What's Mahomes road record anyone know? I'm willing to bet it's very very good because I don't recall our offense playing any worse on road than they do at home. That's a testament to Mahomes and something you can't really teach.
He still can get better too. He misses some deep balls every now and then which every QB does but he can get better in that area. He can get off to a slow start at times. He can sometimes go for big play when it is unnecessary. He can abandon pocket sooner than he should at times. He hasn't peaked yet which is scary to think about.
