This seems crazy to me.
I generally do not buy cards purely as investments though, and if I did it damn sure would not be during an obvious spike driven by completely unrelated events. If I buy a specific card, it's because I like the looks of it and want it on the shelf or available to be. It might not even be the card others deem to be valuable or the rookie card everyone deems as the true rookie card, but it's the card I wanted to look at. They could fall to $2 and I really wouldn't care.
Owning 1/10 of some card in some other part of the globe just seems odd to me. There's no conversation to be had if a guest notices it. There's no "remember game X at the K when..." comment to be had. The emotional attachment to the game and the player is gone. Just seems boring to me.
