I used to in favor of legalizing all drugs. Then I saw some friends get addicted to meth and that changed my mind.
I would be in favor of legalizing more drugs. But I think some drugs are just too addictive for too many people.
If we lived in a more wonkish society, we could custom design drugs that could potentially do less harm.
I remember reading years ago in a science magazine that an alternative to alcohol could probably be designed that did less liver damage and maybe even had less of a hangover effect. But would have a similar mental effect.
But instead of being grandfathered in as natural beverage, you would have to get it approved as a pharmaceutical.
Good luck getting anybody to fund the research/trials for that one.
And then it would probably only be available by prescription for some eye watering cost per month...
