It was a good show, I didn't come away thinking Barry was abused by his Dad. His Dad was a fun loving "Narcissist" if you want to call him one. He seemed to me that and took great pride in his son and his accomplishments. I never took it that his Dad was serious with his comments, like to Joke that Jim Brown was the best and ribbed Barry that he was better. Barry is just an introvert as far as personality and wasn't comfortable in the limelight. The other thing that his dad continually rubbed in his face was that he wasn't good enough to get a scholarship from OU. All this amounts to his dad telling him that he will never be good enough. Nothing worse for a kid to hear growing up.
You get the feeling watching the documentary that Barry never got a lot of pleasure from his own accomplishments. That's a damn shame.
