It was also reported that Mahomes looked better than Alex fairly quickly. So the fact that Mahomes didn't take over had nothing to do with his talent or readiness to play.
My belief is Mahomes probably needed 4-6 games to master enough of the offense to be comfortable starting.

How about Eric Fisher? He started at RT because that was his job. Do we really lose anything if it’s Donald Stephenson there instead? And do you think a year of Fisher playing on the wrong side and getting his confidence blown to shit was all that impactful for his future career?
I mean yeah, he was a first rounder and he started, but…
