You know, I once initiated an attendance policy with my employees. The rules were simple, if you did not plan on the absence with at least a 24 hour notice to your immediate supervisor (and with your supervisor's approval) then you were unexcused, regardless of the situation (unless the company was closed to inclement weather or threat). You are allowed 5 unexcused absences a year and a single unexcused absence could be taken for multiple days (such as a cold or flu that bogged you down for 3 or 4 days) as long as the days were consecutive. I also stated that if you had an unexcused absence the day before or after a holiday, you were not paid for that holiday.

Two lawsuits were filed by one employee after she was fired by me. The lawsuits specifically stated I was illegally taking holiday pay from all employees and that I was firing people due to long term illnesses. Both were proven false by the EEOC before the lawsuits were filed and dismissed by a judge due to my reports from the EEOC two days after the arraignment.

I have no doubt that a couple of turds did the same in this situation and blew the situation completely out of proportion because they were told that regardless of the amount of time they have left, they can be shipped overseas. 2 people out of "hundreds" told just does not strike me as an honest database.
