I think you are thinking of Von Ryans Express. He highjacks a train with a bunch of POW's and they try to make it to the border.

I would normally put Blackhawk Down but the movie just makes me angry sometimes. And I admit I get choked up when they cant stop the bleeding in that guys leg and the last thing he says is to tell his wife and kids he did a good job or something like that.
