Because this is Psi's first step. Psi will get acceptance here and hopefully be able to move on and get acceptance in everyday life. Then start to live life how she wants. Actually it seems like it will work out pretty good. She can start to go out events/bars/whatever with Planet people who she knows accepts her, then realize it's not as bad as she thought it would be in public places.
And just to make sure Psi, you would rather have us type she/her over he/him? Still have to get use to typing that.
