Don't get me wrong, the guy was a nice guy and a very bright guy, great player, and hall of famer. But I really couldn't stand the whining...

he lobbied for bugel and then stabbed him in the back on his way out.
he lobbied for mike white and stabbed him in the back on his way out.
he lobbied callahan to stick with what got us here in the s.b.. when we should have ran the ball on the cover 2/3 and their undersized front 7.
he stabbed callahan in the back on his way out.
al flies his whole family in(unbeknownst to tim)for his 1000th catch.
al gives him a first class press conference when he left(that has never happened before).
he stabbed gruden in the back on his way out.
then the hippo, goes and asks him for a job....
he gets to t.b. and starts slammin us for not keeping his ass, while that was not the case. norv just told him he wasnt guaranteed a starting spot. what were we supposed to do? make him our starter over the development of porter and curry? i think we all see the org. made the right choice on that.
he certainly would have had more numbers(curry went down as well as francis)with us last year, than what he got in t.b....
of course he was a bad ass on the football field. he got it done, without question.....
however, he was a horrible presence in the locker room imo...
when your supposed leader is running his piehole to the press all the time, in a negative fashion, it open's up the flood gates for all the, " glass is half empty type of guys".
alot of people confuse intelligence and articulation with class.
class is taking the high road and keeping it in house.
class is, not naming yourself, "mr. raider" when we already have one (jim otto) that did not give himself that moniker.
class is giving the guy a first class send off, AFTER he did all these things. class is letting him come back.
it's not like i am not thankful for what he did on the field.
it's just the rest.....
his contemporaries who had class....
wizniewski.
biekert.
lincoln kennedy.
terry mcdaniel.
lionel washington.
howie long.
steve smith.
eddie andersen.
last but not least, rich gannon(who tim implied was a control freak to the press).
i could list more. i am sure you guy's get the idea.
i understand his frustrations of not winning a s.b....
i understand.....
i have never understood the custer like rants in the media.
if he takes a job in the media, you will see his sour grapes some more.
class is overlooking all that b.s. and sending him out on a pedestal.
the bottom line on class, is that you keep it in house.
this is just my perception and my opinion. someone who has been worshipping at the house of raider since '73.
