The State of bowling has really gone down the tubes in the most recent years. I believe that all of you can remember watching bowling on the weekend on ABC back in the 80's. Back then you had to be very good to even average 200 let alone get a 300 in a game.
There are 2 major issues with the game today. Bowling equipment that auto hooks out of the box, and lane conditions that basically funnel that hooking ball right into the pocket. I can be off as many as 5 to 10 boards and still strike on a "house" shot that will funnel the ball. Get too far out and the lack of oil causes the ball to auto hook back to the pocket. Pull the ball and the oil in the middle of the lane keeps the ball on target to the pocket. No skill gets you a 300.
The Bowling Alleys and regular bowlers dont want to change this because they look like bowling gods with their 230 average. But the person who doesnt bowl sees the "Pros" on TV score a 208 and beat someone that scored a 198 on a bowling alley and thing they can do the same thing. So no respect for some of the really great bowlers that are out there.
The Pros and Semi Pros are all bowling on differant oil patterns that take skill to figure out and then must repeat that upwards of 20 to 30 games on a weekend. For a regional tour that I have bowled I had to bowl 8 games to qualify for Sunday. I needed to average at least a 212 to qualify over those 8 games. Then I would have to bowl 5 games the following day to cut down to 16 places. From there it goes into a bracket where best 2 out of 3 until the finals where it is best game wins. To Bowl with actual Pros it takes even more games starting on Friday going into Saturday and then get ultra lucky or be very darn good to bowl on TV on Sunday on ESPN.
Now if it said she did that on a Pro shot or Sport shot I would be impressed.
