That whole "2 months salary" marketing scheme is genius. They're managing to get people to not only buy something that's completely unnecessary and frivolous, but also to pay through the nose for it.
And now people are trying to say 3 months? I'd laugh in their face.
I don't know what I spent on my wife's first wedding ring, but it wasn't a lot. What was more important was the symbolism and the commitment. After ten years of marriage, I "upgraded" it to something that still falls short of two months' salary, and she's quite happy with it.
No woman should be stupid enough to believe this hype, but it's in their personal best interest to believe it, so they go along with the game. And then the guys have to do it too, instead of putting the money into a house or something else that's useful.
