Yeah, felonies are brutal. I know someone with a felony record, and I think that some of the long-term punishments really outweigh the person's crime. (And he did commit a crime, but still...he paid his dues long ago.)
I agree with Big Daddy on this one. There's too much enthusiasm about making crimes felonies with no regard to the fact that the person then can't vote, own a gun, etc. The person that I know wrote some bad checks. Okay, a lot of bad checks. But it was more of a business screwup than an intentional crime. And now he can't vote in an election? And he had to give up his gun collection? Come on.
