Here's a story from April:
Linebacker Steve Foley of the San Diego Chargers was arrested on charges of resisting arrest on Friday after police said he scuffled with officers.
Foley was also booked on charges of battery on a police officer and public drunkenness.
One of three officers involved in the struggle with the 6-foot-4, 265-pound linebacker suffered minor injuries, said police spokesman Gary Hassen.
Police were called early Friday morning on a report of an SUV, which turned out to be Foley's, parked the wrong way outside a hotel. They found that its Arkansas plates had expired a year earlier and one officer smelled alcohol on Foley's breath, Hassen said.
As officers prepared to write a ticket and have the vehicle towed, Hassen said Foley became belligerent.
Foley walked away and returned several times to threaten the officers. Police eventually told Foley he was under arrest. When an officer grabbed Foley, he "tensed up" and resisted before he was taken into custody, Hassen said.
Foley, an eight-year NFL veteran, led the team with 10 sacks in 2004, his first with the Chargers, but he was slowed by an abdominal injury last season and had 4½ sacks.
San Diego police arrested Chargers backup linebacker Shaun Phillips on April 14 on a charge of resisting arrest after he scuffled with a patrol officer downtown.
"We take pride in being positive community citizens and leaders, and we take our profile in the community very seriously," Chargers president Dean Spanos said. "We are looking into these matters and we'll deal firmly with the situation at the appropriate time."
