Would certainly save wear and tear on the field.

My theory is that NFL football teams (except the Lions) try to make personnel and game plan decisions based on winning football games. A series of correct decisions by the GM, Head Coach, and Players results in victories. Some organizations do a consistently better job over time of making correct decisons.

Think of it like playing tournament poker...players that consistently make good decisions over time will win over time. The goal is to string enough good decisions together to win the tournament, not win 50% of your hands.
The thought process from the quote you commented on was about the odds of making the playoffs, not for a one game outcome, more for the out come of 16 teams playing 16 games and the if the outcome = a playoff birth or not. Included with this was my rant on the negativity of some chief fans, that we suck if we don't win a superbowl or we suck if we don't get in the playoffs.

My point is that we suck if we have a losing record, and we should try to enjoy the season for what it is..... a game.
