There's validity to that theory. When I've been pulled over alone in my tan, clean camry, I've never been asked for a search. Now my friends that drive music beatin' caddies or sticker covered saturns haven't had the same luck. I'm not saying one deserves to get searched if you drive a van with bad exhaust, but don't be surprised by it. And driving in small towns with contraband that you can't hide well is a bad idea.
I'm all for denying a search if you think they'll bust you, but be ready to spend time waiting on them to find a way to search anyway. But at least you can fight the legallity of that search.
The best advice I can give is carry a small amount and have a good place to hide it. There has to be some place where they won't look. Then, at least you have a chance of getting through a search.
And also, through the entire encounter, be totally respectful and be as cool as ice. Cussing or developing a stutter aren't good signs.
