Absurd.
I have a great relationship with my kids, but underneath it all is the fear that they should not piss off Daddy. With a look, or tone of voice, I can get my kids to settle down and obey in a way my wife simply cannot.
I've spanked my 2 kids (5 and 2-1/2 years old) not even 5 times each. But the threat of it is behind "that look" or "that tone of voice", and they're not dumb enough to lose track of that.
One of my favorite phrases when they're acting up is "you know how this will end -- one of us will be crying, and it won't be me."
