My comment on the blog, the "box" is the mechanism that is Smokey the bandit. Whatever you want, it will be, e.g. Locke's father, Eko's brother, Jack's father, Hurley's imaginary friend, Kate's horse, Sawyer's boar, Walt's polar bear, etc etc etc.
