The sad hilarity of this story deserves a recap.
- The Palm Beach Post said that the 'Phins would trade their second 7th round pick for Trent. (They ended up with two 7th rounders from the Wes Welker trade.)
- Rotoworld and ProFootballTalk, either both making the same mistake or PFT following Roto's lead, reported it as Miami trading their 2nd round pick instead of their second 7th. PFT acknowledged their error shortly after posting the story, not sure about Roto.
- Nick wrote a column for Warpaint on Wednesday night stating unequivacably that KC would get Miami's 2nd round pick.
- Shortly after PFT corrected their story, Nick changed his column to say that even though the Palm Beach paper was reporting Miami would trade their 2nd round pick (which they never said), Nick had a "source" telling him it would be a 7th round pick (which, of course, was the original story all along). Unlike PFT, which acknowledged their error, Nick edited his article without mentioning it had been changed.
- By Thursday morning Nick had changed his column again with a claim that the Palm Beach paper changed THEIR story and that they were now saying it would be a 7th round pick, even though that's what they had been saying all along. Even while accusing the Palm Beach paper of changing their story, nowhere did Nick acknowledge that his story about KC definitely getting Miami's 2nd round pick had now been changed twice.
- Nick now claims to have two sources telling him two different things, and says KC will get somewhere between a 2nd and a 7th for Trent. In other words, he acts like he has a source telling him that KC will get a 2nd for Trent, even though that story was just the result of a typo on another website.
It's journalism at it's finest.
To top off this amazing 24 hour period, Nick went onto the Royals' site on Scout to talk about the Royals and A-Rod and was laughed off the board.
