Totally agree.
Velvet Revolver was completely and utterly disappointing. With the exception of "Fall to Pieces", the band has no signature songs and there's absolutely no "danger" involved in the lyrics or songwriting. Just two very "safe" and forgettable releases.
It will be very interesting to see who they choose to replace Weiland. Before he was brought in, they had Josh Todd from Buckcherry (and Keith Nelson, who co-wrote a few songs on Contraband before parting with both of them and replacing Nelson with Kushner). They also recorded six songs with Mike Matijevic from Steelheart (and provided most of the vocals from the movie "Rock Star" with Wahlberg) along with Sebastion Bach.
The songs with Matijevic sounded nothing like GNR or VR - very different. Slash felt that Josh would make them sound too "80's", just as Bach would.
I think Bach would be a cool choice but he's such good friends with Axl that I'd be surprised if he accepted, even if the guys reached out him.
Whatever they decide, I certainly hope it'll be better than the first two VR records.
