I meant the whole Jared Allen ordeal. The FO could have signed Allen long ago & avoided this. CP wanted to use the DUI as a negotiating tool. CP also used poor judgement in his "player at risk" comments. Nothing to gain in airing the team's dirty laundry other than an opportunity to assert his "authority" and massage his ego. In the end, we received fair compensation, but that was unexpected good fortune. [Peterson was quite smug when he said that Jared Allen would be a Chief in 2008 and then alluded to a long term deal. They never would have let J. Wilkerson leave if they had anticipated the Allen trade.]
Again, Allen could have been signed long ago and at a cheaper rate. A clause regarding off the field problems could have easily been written into the contract. But hey, CP gets to retain his "tough SOB" rep at the negotiating table.
