I keep meaning to give those a read. I tried to watch the miniseries, but rapidly lost interest. I'm told the books are much better.

I think so. He strongly implied it when he told Ben "everything you have, you stole from me".
What has stuck in my head from that conversation was another of Widmore's statements: "I know who you are,
what you are."
