Leash Training: leave no slack in the leash. You can start with a regular collar, but if he fights it move to a choke collar for training. Walk with your dog right on your knee on a very short leash and make frequent stops, turns and reverse direction all the while keeping the leash tight. He will soon learn that he needs to stay right at your leg or he'll feel a tug.

Remember: when he does good, whether it be potty outside, a good stop with you on the leash, etc. PRAISE THE HELL OUT of the dog. Dog's live for their owner's appreciation and work to please you. This is also a reason to never use your hand to scold/hit your dog as he will come to fear the hand that you will later want to pet him with.

Read online, that's where I found most of my info and there is a ton of it out there. I don't know what kind of dog you have, but if you're interested you can teach them tons of things. My lab knows somewhere around 20 commands (some of them in German just because we thought it would be a cool thing to teach her).
