Questions:
a.) First, are your wife and kids sitting on your lap reading with you? I mean, I have a 24 inch monitor, and my wife could be in the room with me and not be able to read a post.
b.) Since that has been ruled out, are you reading the posts to them?
c.) The filter is there for a reason. If your kid can make out the word **** out of **** then you've got bigger fish to fry than chastising me for allowing the filter to do its job.
