The difference is that Thigpen is still somewhat unknown and so would be a top 5 QB. It begs the question: if Thigpen does really well and you draft Stafford, what do you do? That's where the gray area comes in. In practice, you keep Thigpen in. In reality, there will probably be a lot of pressure from the fans and from up top to go with Stafford. It's just something that always happens when you draft a top 5 QB.
Can Thigpen run a pro style offense from under center? There is your defining factor, both Stafford and Sanchez can...
