That's a really weak argument, but people continue to make it. Most great and successful Super Bowl caliber QB's have a great supporting cast. You could count on one hand the number of QB's in NFL history that could lift a team of bad players up into a good offense.
If Pioli fails to put weapons around Cassel, he'll fail. But before even Tom Brady went 16-0, the years before that they were a 10-6, 11-5 type team with Brady and his mish-mash group of WR's, which is why they went out and got Welker and Moss. Tom Brady wasn't even TOM BRADY before that.
