This is most definitely true.
We had two TV's about 10 feet apart with 4 people on each X-Box, and it was great.
Everybody was so pissed when we'd play 'Longest' because whoever got the invisible shield was gonna dominate. That really was the best gaming experience I've had, and I don't know if it was because Halo kicked so much ass and was so new, or the fact that we didn't have XBL and I was only playing against people I knew and could talk so much shit.
I saw a couple of fist-fights break out over that game.
Halo 3 bored me after about 2 weeks of constant play...I don't even remember beating the game, but I did, that's how unimpressive it was to me.
