I've worked as a janitor, a stocker at a grocery store and at a warehouse before, so I've had my share of grungy and hard work, but my worst job was as a cleaner at Royals Stadium.
Back in the early '90's when the Royals were still good and packing the stadium I decided to try working on the clean-up crew as a second job one summer. I lasted one night. We had to sweep all of the garbage from the seats to the aisles then down to the landings to be bagged and dragged out to the dumpsters.
Popcorn and especially sunflower shells would stick to the ground because of spilled beer and pop and we would have to sweep that out and use a scraper to get any gum. After this someone would come in with a giant hose and power spray all of the rest of the stuff into the aisles which we had to sweep up and throw into garbage bags.
I ended up with blisters on my hands which popped while trying to sweep up the sunflowers and popcorn. Then the open wounds were soaked in muck while getting the wet garbage into bags. I had to toss my shoes because they filled up with a mixture of beer, pop and garbage sludge which stunk.
After that one night, I vowed to never take that job again. Instead I got extra overtime work in a hot warehouse which was preferable.
