B) It's pretty easy to say 'just throw it in neutral' but even for someone that knows how easily that's done, they also know that they're about to blow their car all to hell. Most people will exhaust all other options prior to doing so and in their attempts to do that, they may run out of time. Also, panic and adrenaline do strange things to people. It's not so much about saving your vehicle as it is about degrees of losing. Would you rather blow up your car or hit another at 90 and blow up your car anyway and kill yourself and probably someone else?
