Red Dot is exactly what the name implies: there is a glowing red dot in the center of the sight. That dot shows the approximate location of where the round will hit. The sight looks like a short cylinder mounthed on top of the weapon.
A holographic sight typically has a crosshair with circle around it with range ticks (lower ticks used on targets at farther ranges). The crosshairs in a holographic sight are just that: a reflected hologram of a circle with crosshairs in the middle. The sight looks like a square thin bracket with a wider base mounted on the weapon. Holographic sights cost a lot more than red dot sights.
