Pointing to his rookie season is valid. But considering his injuries would he have stayed healthy enough to continue producing those numbers without performance enhancing drugs?
If not for a bad back Don Mattingly would have had a longer healthier career, and therefore, been a sure fire HOFer. Should guys who took steroids to stay on the field get in while guys who didn't cheat get penalized?
Mattingly was a far superior player to McGwire.
