LOL. No, he isn't Mark Sanchez. If the Jets had Cassel they would have won the East, and likely gotten a bye. Top offense and running game, and you still squeak into the playoffs? Great QB play there.
Trent Green was 31 when he was traded to the Chiefs and still struggled for a year before he found his rhythym. On a team with a better offensive line, with a HOF TE, a Pro Bowl Running back (terrific pass catching RB as well) and a Pro Bowl Fullback.
Kurt Warner was out of the league, and was a backup when he was 27. He was thrust into the starting position when Trent Green was hurt.
There are some franchise QB's. However, most 'great' QB's are merely a good fit in the system they are in and know that system inside and out.
Cassel should improve next season. As his familiarity with the offense and personel improve, so should he.
