Classic. There's no chance that Haley actually doesn't have this huge ego that Whitlock loves to rant about and actually understands that in order to be a good head coach, you need to surround yourself with good assistants who share the same philosophy as you and who are not afraid to disagree with you when necessary, not a bunch of yes men.
The real heat is on Pioli to get these guys the talent they need. He has his hand chosen head coach in place, and he has multiple Super Bowl winning coordinators on staff. It all comes down to player acquisition now. But Whitlock totally whiffs on this point and continues to harp on the same tired ego thing.
Frankly I don't get his whole "Haley should have kept Gailey around and used him as a scapegoat for failure" argument. If you are in charge of my franchise, you better not be looking for excuses for failure. If you are going to fail, at least give it your all. Whitlock is promoting a cowardly approach to coaching, and to me, that would be far worse than having an ego...
