You know what is even sadder?
Joe Montana, in all the years that line was together, was the only QB that could do anything behind that outstanding O-Line, and he was so fragile that he still managed to not make it through that playoff season, and miss a number of regular season games in his two years as the Chiefs QB.
The fact that he was so fragile at that point in his career is why I viewed the trade for Montana a bad investment, and still do.
Had they acquired a better backup than Dave Krieg or Steve Bono to watch and learn, and take over in games that Montana missed to injury, the investment would have been a good one.
