Thoughout the history of the show we've seen the island prevent people from dying until they have no more work to do. We saw this with Jack, Locke, and Michael specifically. I'm not saying that the island kept her alive for sure, but I don't think it's a stretch to draw that conclusion. It's not poor writing in my mind. It's consistant with the other "miraculous" things we've seen on the show. The island kept her alive. That explanation works fine for me.
In regards to Jacob being Sayid... I had the same impression as many of you. I thought they were implying that Jacob was now in Sayid.
Did any of you watch Jimmy Kimmel after LOST? Damon and Carlton were on and Jimmy asked them point blank if Jacob was possessing Sayid now. They're answer was interesting to say the least...
I suppose that's probably true.
The only thing I can't figure out is if Jacob is now in Sayid, does Jacob possess people whereas the Man In Black only takes their image? So MIB is basically a shapeshifter?
