Had/have a few over the years .....
1.) Paper train early, firmly and consistently if it is to be an inside dog.
2.) When the dog has done something to displease you and you call it to come to you, don't physically discipline the animal, the trust level between you will diminish considerably. Verbal displeasure by the tone of your voice will tell them of your unhappiness and if you are "close" with the animal it will be much more effective.
Just common sense along the same lines as raising kids but you don't have to save for college.
