All our dogs lived outside. It's just the nature of the relationship.
Don't worry about Chief. He's already part of the family. We spend plenty of time with him, and my wife will ensure he's comfortable (She spends plenty of money on him). Plus, there are times when I'll be able to take him to the farm with me all day, that is an opportunity most dogs don't get. Don't worry about Chief. There is no way I could do anything to adversely affect the dog.

That's cool Man, and I'm not trying to be a dick. But since my wife and I got our first Lab in December 2003, I've become a fierce defender of the human-dog relationship. I never had any dogs growing up and never "got it". Now, I seriously couldn't live without either of my girls. They want to be with us 24-7 and we want to be with them 24-7. When they're not here (I take them for grooming every 2-3 weeks. They get bathed, nails, ears, etc. for only $23 dollars!), the house feels empty.
As for the allergies, I'm slightly allergic as well. My allergist suggested rinsing them at least once a week and shampooing every other week. It's worked like a charm.
Best of luck with Chief and enjoy!
