SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Royals optioned pitcher Blake Wood and first baseman Kila Ka'aihue to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
They also were able to retain pitcher Edgar Osuna, a Rule 5 pick, and sent him to the Minor Leagues.
Wood, a top prospect who was converted to a reliever last season, pitched in seven Cactus League games and posted a 4.70 ERA.
Ka'aihue had a productive camp, batting .347 (17-for-49) with a club-high four home runs and 11 RBIs. However, he had first baseman Billy Butler and designated hitter Jose Guillen ahead of him.
Osuna, selected in Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 10, had to remain on the Royals' Major League roster or be offered back to the Atlanta Braves at half the $50,000 purchase price.
The Royals offered Osuna but the Braves declined. Osuna then was placed on waivers, cleared and was outrighted to the Royals' Double-A Northwest Arkansas club.
Osuna was in five games and had a 10.80 ERA in 10 innings.
The cuts reduced the Royals' camp roster to 39. They have to finalize the 25-man roster by Sunday.
