I'm doing the same thing! Started out when I was curious what my full beard would look like and I decided to let my hair grow out as well. Someone suggested the Locks of Love thing and so I'm going to try for it. Only got about four inches of length so far. I have to admit, I look a lot like the "white" versions of Jesus right now!
